Lightweight re-levelling of sunken concrete subfloor

Uzin Turbolight System used at Fletcher Building Penrose Campus

Introduction:
Fletcher Building is redeveloping its 2.2 hectare Penrose head office campus. The redevelopment of the complex is due for completion in the third quarter of 2016 with four existing office buildings undergoing refurbishment.

Scope of Work:
Project Architect Mr Paul Morrison of Warren and Mahoney needed a unique solution to re-level the sunken concrete subfloor of the old Winstone aggregates building. Fletchers Engineers needed the lightest levelling system available as the old partly cantilevered subfloor could not be weight loaded with conventional cementations screeds. The subfloor was both uneven and dished with datum heights varying over 130mm in depth.

The subfloor was both uneven and dished with datum heights varying over 130mm in depth. Product Specification: Gilt Edge Industries architectural consultant Ian Williams recommended the Uzin Turbolight System, which was developed in Germany for light weight under-layment requirements, rapid construction and renovation. Turbolight is a light and fast way to produce a substrate which is ready for all types of floor coverings. Offering exceptional strength to weight ratios, a 1m x 1m x 130mm floor section weighs only 48.9kg. The main component is the Uzin NC 194 light weight screed which weights only 21kg a bag. The finishing screed is NC170 Level Star levelling compound with high performance plasticiser technology completes the system. Uzin NC 198 low-shrink rapid cement was specified as a light weight ramping screed to link the Turblolight installation zone to the subfloor beyond the affected area. Gilt Edge supply a seamless warranted system of floor preparation and adhesives for all projects.

Installation:
Pyramid Plasterers worked closely with Gilt edge and Fletcher Interiors Project Managers to ensure a professional and timely installation process. Benefits include convenient bag delivery/mixing on site. NC194 is simply mixed with water and laid onto the prepared sub-floor. Areas can be zoned and laid in part so Turbolight is flexible. Fast Drying time enables other trades to work on, with markedly less restriction than other systems.
